What to Bring in Your Carry-On Bag

It's the traveling season. Wether you have been traveling non-stop this summer, you've been visiting college campuses, going home, or breaking in that last minute trip before a new semester starts. Wherever or for whatever reason you're traveling it's always essential to be prepared. While I may not have always practiced this tactic I have found myself many a-time rushing to throw everything into a bag and rush to leave, making me ALWAYS forget that one essential item I overlooked on my coffee table.

Now we all know the most obvious preparation for travel is packing, but like I said I can just never seem to get it right! if its a weekend trip or a two week cross country plane trip to visit a dear friend I just never seem to do it right. So, to save myself future dilemma and all you lovelies I decided to share with you one of my newly created lists to aid you in preparation!

The Chic Life Carry-On Essentials:

1.) a durable, lightweight, fashionable (duh) backpack, duffle or tote bag| I love this Warhol duffle because its comfortable, lightweight, a bit artsy and doesn't make me look too nerdy while being fashionably versatile and fit a lot of items.

2.) A backup outfit| A lot can happen when you're traveling, especially lost luggage. It's something we all dread and pray that it will NEVER happen, but just in case it does you'll be thankful for the backup outfit complete with shoes. (tip: pack all undergarments in your carry-on as well so you'll never be out of a clean pair)

3.) Makeup, Deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrush| keep you feeling refreshed and looking good during your travels

4.) Headphones, iPhone, iPad & a book| to keep you entertained and to keep you connected wherever your travels may take you.

5.) Sunglasses and a hat| to protect that beautiful face from the sun! this is a must to sunny destinations.

6.) Watch| a smart accessory to keep you on time when your phone dies -- We've all been there! this is so helpful and chic

7.) Camera| While in todays tech age this may seem silly but trust me, save your phone batteries and use an actual camera! I like the InstaxMini so you can print the memories as you go! plus you never know when the moment will rise to give a cute reminder with your number to that cute guy you don't want to forget ;)

8.) Itinerary| for all those you love in need to know of your travel plans and to help keep you organized

9.) Passport, Wallet Credit Cards, local currency| essential for wherever your travels take you, these are absolutes you should always have at all times.

10.) Chargers, chargers & chargers| lets face it, we all have gadgets, we all have multiple gadgets and these electronic devices we covet with out life dependencies require battery operational life. Don't let it go to chance and put it in your carry-on, scared they may get crushed? try winding those wires into a sunglass case for protection.

Did I miss anything? let me know one of your carry on essentials that I may have missed below!

[13] OOTD - 4TH OF JULY EDITION

So incase you hadn't realized this isn't my outfit for the day, however since I have dedicated every wednesday to OOTD's I am posting what I will be wearing this weekend here for independence day!

It finally feels like summer with hot hot days and little to no wind. What does this mean? it means times for shorts, skirts, dressed and time to pack up that fall/winter wardrobe. Say goodbye to heavy jackets, lots of layers, tights and scarfs and hello to showing off that beautiful body! Here I have included a sweater to keep the patriotism going when the fireworks hit and the cool night begins to creep up on you, and of course, what's more american than layering shades of denim?

\High-tops:Converse/Crossbody:Coach/AviatorSunglasses:ArmaniExchange/

So I wanted something super casual, comfortable and of course patriotic. This look is comfortable, relaxed but still enough put together that you'll look great. The tank could be worn on its own or layered with the polka dot denim top. The tank is one of my favorites because it's playful with its graphic print of 'Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of boys'; it's super comfortable, and if you wanted to alter it you could cut down the armholes to make it looser and more like a cover up. These converse are my absolute favorite pair. They're a bit edgy with the studs on the back with this amazing crushed velvet body. I chose a cross body because if you're going out to a fair, carnival or a family barbecue you want something easy that you can just sling over and not have to worry about adjusting but has easy access to your essentials.

What are your plans for Independence day? what type of outfit do you think you'd wear? Sound off in the comments below!

I've been in a bit of a dress mood as of late; it's like a phase for me that comes and goes periodically. When I'm in a dress phase, I get a serious dress phase where it is all I can really think to wear. For today I felt like going with stripes, it's not for everyone but they true key I find to wearing a striped dress is to simply own it. This dress is a little boxy, and if you have curves like I do you'll want to accentuate them with a belt to give the dress some shape. If you want to exaggerate it I recommend a dress thats a bit big for you, it gives a more loose billowy look when you belt it. I paired this dress with a fun silvery long necklace that had some weight to it. I wanted a statement piece but not an over the top statement which is why I love multi-chain necklaces. Top the look off with some gladiator heels and a rockin' pair of sunglasses and you'll be looking ever the fabulous fashionista you are. Chic, edgy vibe that boosts the confidence level by 11.

Today I felt like being a bit dressed up, I wanted my look to be a bit flirty, fun, but also appropriate for work/school. This look is great during the summer times because of the flared light skirt and barely there cap sleeves. You can pair the dress with a sheer tight with the line running up the back, style it for fall with a burgundy (or color of your choice) tight, or even with your bare beautiful legs. These exposed laced ankle boots are a nice luxurious suede and are absolutely stunning to wear. They have been sitting in my closet for a bit now and I saw them and just knew I had to wear them again. Paired with some fun simple gold jewelry makes this look effortless and chic while not killing your budget and quick to pull together.

Continuing with my summer theme of outfits of the day I wanted to play with a nontraditional way of wearing denim, thus inspiring todays look incorporating a chambray dress. This dress itself is very light and easy to throw on, I paired it with an equally light cardigan. This look is great for relaxing at home, going to class or maybe even a farmers market! I wanted something simple easy and fun while still being stylish and chic.

It's beginning to feel like summer here and with summer comes hot days, sunbathing, trips to the beach and light and breathable clothing. In honor of the changing of the seasons I decided to dress for the occasion and break out my light and airy comfortable clothes.

This look is also in honor of my fellow college girls who have just graduated and are on their way to many interviews. [7] OOTD -- Memorial Day

Welcome to Memorial Day. For those of you who aren't familiar with this holiday, today is the day we give remembrance to all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice (and those who serve) in the name of freedom.  Today we take a moment to say thank you and pray for your families who are grieving your loss.

A lot of us today take this time to have get togethers with loved ones, barbecue or take a weekend holiday. So in honor of today and along this general guideline on this perfect summers day here in California I give you my memorial day outfit.
