Merry Christmas Eve Lovelies! as promised here is a gallery of my illustrations through out the Fall/Winter semester. I had posted some on my Instagram which you can find on the right. They Will be added to the main illustration section of my site if you would like a closer look. I hope you have a great time with family and friends!
Today I felt like being a bit dressed up, I wanted my look to be a bit flirty, fun, but also appropriate for work/school. This look is great during the summer times because of the flared light skirt and barely there cap sleeves. You can pair the dress with a sheer tight with the line running up the back, style it for fall with a burgundy (or color of your choice) tight, or even with your bare beautiful legs. These exposed laced ankle boots are a nice luxurious suede and are absolutely stunning to wear. They have been sitting in my closet for a bit now and I saw them and just knew I had to wear them again. Paired with some fun simple gold jewelry makes this look effortless and chic while not killing your budget and quick to pull together.
Please let me know what your favorite staple items are in your closet in the comment section below. Also let me know how you would style this look different?
So I have seen a few bloggers do this especially recently and thought I'd give it a try. While doing this post I got a new perspective on just how exactly I spend my day, slowing down to take pictures and really think about the tasks I complete day to day was a big eye opener on where I can spend less time and where I should dedicate more time. I hope you all enjoy the little sneak peak into what a typical day looks like.
8am - Alarm Rings
A typical day would start for me around 8am depending on the level of morning grogginess thats hitting me. With a few brief smacks to my alarm clock to finally get it to turn off, I proceed to lounge in bed for 10-15 minutes checking emails/Facebook/Instagram, checking on my blog statistics and answering your comments! I absolutely love hearing what you all have to say.
8:15am - Morning Beauty Routine
So once I'm able to fully function, I hop out of bed still in my foggy half awake haze and head to the restroom. (I'm not a morning person so this is a challenge for me) I wash my face with warm water, apply a little moisturizer and brush my teeth. Afterward I do a quick attempt at making my bed before going to make myself a small breakfast. I've never been a huge breakfast eater so this may seem like a simple task, but for me choosing what to eat for breakfast is a constant struggle. Anyway, I know many of you may be coffee drinkers, and believe me I love coffee, but I've been trying to stay away and switch to tea. For me personally it's a much more relaxing and balanced wake up without the harsh crash later in the day. While I eat breakfast I like to finish up with my emails work on my classes and write out my agenda/check my planner.
9/9:30am - Time with the fur baby
Somewhere between 9-9:30 depending on how the day is going to play out I throw on some comfortable workout clothes and take my dog Bradley out for a walk with my mom. It's a great time for me to talk with her outside of the house and get some exercise with my puppy. He's still learning how to walk on a leash properly because he gets so excited so it can be a bit of a fun challenge!
9:45am - Shower time
I think this is pretty self explanatory. I should clarify that because I'm not currently employed my schedule is going to seem pretty different to most of you. I also attend my classes online to save money and time commuting, so I'm able to set my own pace. After my little dance party and concert routine in the shower it's time to get dressed, style my hair and do my make up.
10:15/10:30 am - Styling my Look
Currently when it comes to my look I've been using softer/feminine tones for my make up. Seen above I've been in love with the Tartelette palette. It has such soft beautiful matte colors that I just can't resist. My face routine and make up take me about 20 minutes but I make up the time in styling my look the night before so all I have to do is slipped my clothes on in 5 minutes or less.
11am-5pm - Illustration -- Work
Around 11 is when I start to fully begin to work on what I've planned for the day, I know its not the smartest to start working so late in the day but after a lot of years trying to force myself to be able to function around 8am for working on projects I realized waiting the couple hours allowed me to produce better work in the long run. Recently since my semester ended I started a new project of redecorating my office. Above is an illustration I've created for my office, I spend a good chunk of my day practicing my illustrating, researching for my Senior collection and eliminating excess from my office that I'm packing up to donate to charity.
5:30pm - Dinner Time
After spending a good half an hour or so cleaning up my illustration and sewing supplies I like to straighten up my desk a little setting out the next couple tasks I need to complete. Today was a bit of a lazier day than most when it comes to dinner so I stuck with something simple a burrito from Chipotle (because nobody felt like cooking), fresh fruit and my newest addiction of a drink Marley's Mellow Mood Black Tea.
6pm - Clean Up
After dinner I think its easiest to just clean up after yourself, generally when we cook here I like to clean up pots and pans as I cook so to eliminate as much mess as possible. After all the dishes are washed and the kitchen looks more presentable I like to curl up with a book for an hour. I think reading an actual physical book is sort of becoming a lost art which is extremely upsetting to me. I can't imagine not having that time to not get lost in another world for an hour, with yes another cup of tea. The book I'm currently reading is The Clan of the Cave Bears by Jean M. Auel.
7:30 pm - Relax with the Fam
Once everything is pretty much so done and even though I've been pretty much relaxing for the past hour this is when I go to the couch and veg out with my family. We usually pick a new movie to watch or watch one of our favorite shows off the DVR. I still bring a pad and paper to work on some more illustrations or finish up one I was just working on. This is also when I'm able to give over attention to texting and catching up with my friends instead of random sporadic texts through out the day. There's something about curling up with loved ones and your fur baby that completely relaxes you. Sometimes I'll throw in a night walk for the pup if he seems extra energized.
9pm - The Writing Hours
Around 9 is when I separate myself and really try to focus on writing. I've never been the best writer, mainly because I write as soon as thoughts come to me and they never seem to come out grammatically correct. I try to, depending on the day, write out blog posts or at least ideas for blog posts for the week. I take a bit of time each day to write a paragraph or a few sentences, make edits, collect items/clothes to take pictures and edit them. If I don't time myself I could spend more than the hour and a half I dedicate each night (3 hours each night on the weekend) easily working things out till they're perfect.
10:30pm - Shutting Down the Electronics -- Get Ready for Bed
After I've stopped blogging for the night, Facebook stalking, writing even more emails, and overall internet surfing I shutdown my computer, turn off the lights, and get ready for bed. I, sometimes, change into proper pajamas, but most nights I end up in some form of yoga pants/leggings and a t-shirt because I'm lazy and they were most likely the easiest and most versatile thing I could find. I always apply my night time face care routine which consists of toning, exfoliating, one of two night masks and then a light moisturizer. I brush my teeth while dancing around to my iPod to make it a fun activity, grab a glass of water and crawl into bed.
10:50pm - Get in Bed
On weekdays, by 11, I'm usually in bed. At this point, I typically require between 30 m minutes and an hour of wind-down time before I'm ready to actually fall asleep. This usually includes a TV episode or two in the background while I either cave and keep working on my latest blog post, browse through Etsy or read a few chapters of my book. It may seem strange that I need to wind-down after not really doing anything physically strenuous, but when I'm blogging, researching, illustrating, really any of my work activities my brain is *ON* and alert. This is really when I can do things like play on my phone mindlessly, and really give that brain a break.
12am - Lights Out
My lights are usually out by the time I get into bed or a little before or so. That is, after I turn off the TV, plug in my iPhone, reset my alarm for the following day and grab my childhood stuffed animal that I still sleep with (don't judge). I curl up into my pillows take one last sip of water and drift off. Zzz.....
That's a basic outline of my day to day life, Monday through Friday. My weekends are a little more exciting and spent a bit differently, more family time, trips to the beach, trips to the dog park, shopping, etc. It's a bit of a predictable life, especially now that I have an organizer and try to plot things out that way, but I like it this way. When the semester starts things seem a bit more hectic and fleshed out but for a summer break away from the constant moving I am pretty content with the smaller laid back projects ahead of me.
So, that’s my day in the life. What does yours look like? (I think it’s a really fun exercise to chronicle your mundane day-to-day happenings because it’s awesome to look back on what you used to do!)
**PS-If you read this entire post, you deserve a bear hug and a gold star. Way to go, you just survived reading over 2,020 words about what I do each day!**
Continuing with my summer theme of outfits of the day I wanted to play with a nontraditional way of wearing denim, thus inspiring todays look incorporating a chambray dress. This dress itself is very light and easy to throw on, I paired it with an equally light cardigan. This look is great for relaxing at home, going to class or maybe even a farmers market! I wanted something simple easy and fun while still being stylish and chic.
What is your go to outfit for Summer? What would you add/change to this look? Let me know in the comments below!
It's beginning to feel like summer here and with summer comes hot days, sunbathing, trips to the beach and light and breathable clothing. In honor of the changing of the seasons I decided to dress for the occasion and break out my light and airy comfortable clothes.
How did you celebrate the beginning of summer? How do you like this look? How do you enjoy the OOTD series every wednesday/thursday? Please comment below and let me know!
So today I had received my first ever Rocksbox in the mail. What is Rocksbox you may ask? well it's a monthly subscription service dedicated specifically to jewelry. You first take a quick simple survey so their stylists can get an idea of what exactly your taste is and then send you a 3-piece box of jewelry averaging around $200 to wear on loan. You of course are able to purchase any of the jewelry from the box and anything you don't plan on keeping simply pack back up and ship back to them. The entire box is yours to keep and wear for as long as you want (with the monthly subscription fee of course) or you can just send them all right back and a new group will be on its way to you shortly. Below you will see my unboxing experience via pictures and a review shortly after with my first experience!
So as for my first Rocksbox I am pleasantly surprised. I, however, wish that I would have waited till after I had gotten this first box before making my wishlist on their site.
All my pieces here are from the wishlist I had created and therefore inhibit my ability to truly review their stylists abilities to judge based on my interests. Otherwise, I really like these minimalistic and geometric jewelry pieces. I've always had an affinity for the look and am pleased they picked them to send. The necklace is a bit short for my neck and helps me judge just what exactly the lengths are of them since the site is lacking that information.
The site itself has a great variety of pieces from statement jewelry to even simpler pieces. You are also able to choose the type of metal you prefer if you're not so open minded to different kinds.
I'd like it to be known that this is not a sponsored post (though I wish it was). So unfortunately I cannot offer you a discount code. The services are $19 a month but for the $10 you get to spend on jewelry each month and an unlimited amount of swapping within each month I find it to be a pretty good deal, especially if you're strapped for time like I am.
If you would like to get the full details and possibly try out their service click Here.
Today I felt like dressing up a little classy today and decided to go with a cute and chic black and white look. This look is also in honor of my fellow college girls who have just graduated and are on their way to many interviews. With a few minor adjustments and some accessorizing you can very this look for a date, night out with the girls, interviews or just going to work.
Welcome to Memorial Day. For those of you who aren't familiar with this holiday, today is the day we give remembrance to all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice (and those who serve) in the name of freedom. Today we take a moment to say thank you and pray for your families who are grieving your loss.
A lot of us today take this time to have get togethers with loved ones, barbecue or take a weekend holiday. So in honor of today and along this general guideline on this perfect summers day here in California I give you my memorial day outfit.
Today marks the last day of my Spring semester so I thought I'd introduce you all to a quick peak at my accessories final.
This is a Fall/Winter 2017 small collection which was inspired by a video called Make Your Maker by Lucy McRae. It's a 10 piece collection made of leather with a watercolor painted effect. They bags are all created structurally but with the use of foam to give it a softness and lightness. I really wanted to create a collection based in my contemporary field and I feel I have achieved this. I used neutral colors with a pop of teal and silver hardware for the 20s-30s age range market.
If you would like to see the full collection please click here.
