This post is something I've been meaning to do for awhile but I felt needed a few trial and error attempts of what exactly I felt I needed to store in my car for the best and most convenient driving experience for me. Call it my Chic Car Emergency Kit. The idea behind this post really came from a recent drive to run errands, I was in a hurry and really just grabbed my purse and went not even thinking about how I had just changed purses and all I had with me was my wallet. Being a California girl you think I'd remember that the sun blinds? alas I was without sunglasses and being a short girl was blinded. No amount of wiggling and trying to make myself look taller was going to get that visor to work. Lets just say this driving experience was not optimal. So after a long thought process, trials and probably SERIOUS over thinking on my part I give you my must haves.
Sunglasses: This may seem like a duh item, or something you want to argue that you carry in your purse, but trust me. You will want to always store a pair in your car, I can't even begin to count the number of times I've been out and the sun is destroying any sense of vision I have, I reach down to dig in my purse for my sunglasses and oops! I forgot them at home. Save yourself the trouble, save your eyes, keep a pair in your glove compartment. Your eyes will thank you.
Kleenex: If the pollen in the air, a tiny dust particle from your a/c or your open windows is completely killing you. Hell if you're a klutz like me and the tiniest bump causes you to spill your coffee all over your lap, you'll be thankful you stashed Kleenex in that middle console.
Hand Sanitizer: Something I live off of is hand sanitizer, when you've seen your fair share of articles on just exactly how many germs are on EVERYTHING it kind of becomes a handicap. Realistically you just never know when hand sanitizer will come in handy and it's so small it won't take up much space in your car.
Lip Balm/Chaptstick/Lip Gloss: A neutral color, something quick and easy that you can just throw on if you were in a rush one morning or to simply moisturize those pretty lips on a hot day.
Water Bottle & Protein Bar: The energy bar is optional, but I think its best to prepare for the worst case scenario, maybe you're stuck in traffic or were in a rush and missed breakfast. Just a little something for those 'what if' days.
Chewing Gum/Mints: I think this is self explanatory, we all like to refresh our breath and storing a pack in the car can give you that extra minty breath before a date, interview or that presentation you've been prepping for all week!
Travel Body Mist: I like to keep a small little sample or travel size of my favorite body spray in the middle console of my car. Sometimes, particularly on hot days or if I've just shoved a Chipotle burrito in my belly on a 20 minute break, its nice to be able to throw on a refresher spray.
Auxiliary Cord & Phone Charger: For us iPod obsessed aficionados, those who HATE the commercials on the radio and those of us who spent a whole day creating playlists of our favorite songs of the moment this is for you.
Standard Emergency Kit Supplies: Maybe its just me, maybe its the late night marathons of The Walking Dead, but I feel that EVERYONE not just girls should have an emergency kit in their car. This includes things like a flashlight, tire gauge, emergency blanket, etc.
Money: I repeat, MONEY keep change in your car. Hide a $20 somewhere only you will find it. Almost nobody carries cash on them, but if you've ever been in a jam, or find one of those parking meters that JUST don't have the credit card station still, you will thank yourself for that emergency fund.
Good Book: This may just be me, but I have a few books that I can read a thousand times and still enjoy. Because of such, you never know what your day is going to be like. Nobody else is going to be on break with you at work? You feel like going to have 'me' time. Why not drive to a quiet spot at the park and read for an hour? Never underestimate the power of a good book.
Umbrella: I know, I know "but I keep one by my door," "I have a small one that fits in my purse," "Theres one at my office," I've heard the excuses, I've used the excuses. Plan for the ONE DAY you will forget them all. There will be a day, it may not be next week or in a month but there will be a day you forget that umbrella and it really starts to pour while you're out in that new killer outfit or you just got your hair done and it looks fabulous. Save yourself the headache of a bad day and store an umbrella.
Tampax/Tampon: This time I'm speaking directly to my girls out there. I know we all have the stash in a cute little coin purse in the back of our purse. I also know life gets busy and things happen and theres nothing worse than reaching into your purse for that life saver tampon and finding an empty little compartment. So instead of having to be late to that important meeting by getting creative or risking an accident on that date with the cute guy from the office, store a small box in the glove compartment.
Reusable Shopping Bags: Stores now have started to go green and done away with the plastic bags, while this is a big yay for mother earth its a drag when you start to see the $.10 charge over and over again when you're getting groceries or went on a shopping haul. While 10 cents may not be much, it can add up over time.
Make-up Palette/ Foundation with SPF: This may be a bit excessive, but some days you need a touch up. Maybe its the humidity, maybe you decided to take that trip to the gym after all and the girls are begging you to come out leaving you little to know time. There are plenty of do all make-up palettes out there, and they are a life saver. They don't take up much space and save you a ton of time if you get one that has neutral or universal colors. Foundation with a little SPF is always great, it not only evens out your skin but it helps protect from the sun. Personally I also find them to apply a little lighter and more smoothly as well leaving you with a nice protected glow.
what are some of your must haves in the car?
